"Everything will be Just Fine"
To comply with new legislation the Meals Direct Central Production Unit had to have it's extraction system upgraded. In order to minimise disruption to meals production it was agreed with the Contractors Spa Gas to let them have complete access to the building from 2pm on 24th November until Sam on 29th November, the deadline for when meals production would need to start again!
Meals Direct Production staff left on schedule at 1:30pm on 24th November each taking 2 days Annual Leave. By 2pm the unit was filled with Spa Gas Contractors. A feeling of panic swept over Joe Finnegan but the Spa Gas Directors patted him on the shoulder and said "everything will be just fine". He found this hard to believe!
Friday 25th November, day 2 - Joe returned to the factory from a meeting and noticed no sounds of drilling, banging, shouting or singing, just silence. A feeling of dread set in as he asked why work had stopped? He was informed that the Contractors had come across low grade Asbestos in the ceiling and were waiting for the all clear from Health and Safety before they could resume
work. Spa Gas Directors again patted him on the shoulder and said, "everything will be just fine".
Monday 28th November, day 3 Joe returned to the Production Unit which now contained a small army of Spa Gas workers surrounded by scenes of utter chaos. Spa Gas Directors continued to pat him on the shoulder and said, "everything will be just fine".
Tuesday 29th November, day 4 6:30am - Joe walked into the Production Area fearing the worst. However the main Production Area was back to normal and spotlessly clean. Tony the Spa Gas Foreman was casually polishing the stainless steel on our new state of the art extraction system. The Spa Gas Directors gave him a final pat on the shoulder and said, "we told you everything would be just fine".
Joe has learnt that we need to have faith in Contractors who carry out work for us, but is sure he will always worry, as it keeps him going!!! The new extraction system meets all the legal requirements and has improved the working environment. A great result in the end and everything "was just fine".
